The user manual for the Rad City eBike from Rad Power bikes can be found here, along with a great assemble video which walks you through the steps of putting this electric bike together. The RadCity will arrive mostly assembled. You will need to turn the handlebars and install the front wheel, handlebars, and pedals. A basic tool kit is provided to aid in the assembly of the RadCity.

The high capacity 48-volt battery will propel you at full speed for 20-25 miles or much further at a slightly reduced speeds. There are many variables that affect exactly how far you will be able to travel on a single charge like wind, hills, payload, and speed. We get an average range of 30 miles in commute/urban environments and 20 miles with really heavy loads and steep hills. The RadCity has 750 watts (500 in Canada) of power on demand. The LCD meter provides a continuous display of power consumption while you are riding.

Pedal-assist uses a cadence sensor built into the drive train of the e-bike which reads when you are pedaling and automatically turns the electric motor on to provide assistance when you are pedaling. Start pedaling and the sensor tells the motor to turn on. You can adjust the level of assistance with the LCD screen from 1 (lowest amount of assistance) to 5 (highest amount of assistance) to match your desired speed. Since you are pedaling, using the RadCity in pedal-assist mode will generally result in a longer range compared to throttle only mode.

You can add a rack, fenders and some basic lights to the Cross Current for $125-150. And to be fair you would need to get the $1800 Cross Current to get comparable battery size to the Rad City.

The new battery has no memory effect unlike other battery chemistries meaning you can charge your battery after each and every use, even if you just take a spin down the block. The battery is completely self-managing and the charger stops automatically when the battery is fully charged.

Hill performance depends on the weight of rider and gear and the steepness of the hill as well as some other factors. The 48 volt 20 amp motor controller surprises everyone we have had a test ride the RadCity, but we never recommend going up more than a 15% grade using the motor alone.
